Common values

Higher numbers are colder

Counter to how it sounds, a lower Kelvin value is redder and warmer, and a higher one is bluer and colder. The scale comes from heating metal — first red, then white and bluish as it gets hotter. Home lighting sits around 2700–3000K, and a workspace around 4000–5000K.
